Not only do pufferfish balloon when threatened, their inflated bodies bristling with sharp spines, they are amongst the most poisonous animals in the world. Ours in brilliant finish pewter is a completely benign variety, its only function to sit in the neck of a decanter, aerating wine by disturbing its flow when being decanted.
